A Walk in the Valley of Greed

What would Jesus do? It's a no-brainer; he would leave the Christian Coalition, take a consulting job with Enron and then use his divine power to make George W. Bush president

News from Agape Press This news story is completely inaccurate. Taco Bell is giving game cards away and not Tarot cards. According to the story, there was no contact or verification with Taco Bell either. A one sided news story with wrong facts....

No Pop-up Ads on Google "Google does not allow pop-up ads of any kind on our site. We find them annoying." This is why we all love Google....

First computer - started messing around on friends C-64's in 1984 (back in grade 4) - type in all day only to see a bouncing ball - hard to believe that GEOS could run on that thing (btw, our world would be a better place if Geos had become the standard instead of Windows on PC's). First computer I owned was a Tandy Color Computer, the only cool thing about it was that it has Q-Bert. I wish I had a Timex Sinclair but oh well....

First webpage - sometime in 1994 while connecting online via my AT and 9600 bps modem via a shell account via GeoCities. On further inspection, it was normal then but hasn't aged well. It got me addicted.

Passport glitch hits Microsoft game site And MS want's to host all of my important data. They can't even keep their data online.

Nevada Board Denies Tyson Boxing License I hope that Mike gets his life together. Tyson needs some help and sadly getting an alternative venue is not the answer. I appluad the Nevada gaming commissions stand. I just wish Tyson would heed the advice.

The Great Divide "I predict that in the years ahead Enron, not Sept. 11, will come to be seen as the greater turning point in U.S. society." Paul Krugman may be right. The days of accepting what a corporation or organization says as truth may be over. Companies and org's are going to be coming under much harsher scrutiny from here on in.

U.S. Says Arafat Missed Opportunity for Statehood I agree with much of this article but what about Israel's continued development of settlements in the West Bank and Gaza? Is that not provocation? I wonder how many people would react to a process that had the occupier building permanent settlements on your land? The whole process is really messed up.

I love living in Saskatchewan... well my area of Saskatchewan. In the mid-central part we have hills and Saskatoon is a university city. Saskatchewan has some of the finest lakes and wildlife in the world and since only a million of us live here, there is lots of wilderness to go around.

In the winter however it is stinking cold here. This morning my fuel line froze up just like nothing. One second I am driving down the highway, the next I am stopped on an awfully quiet stretch of road hoping my cell phone works. It was -30. Luckily someone came along and gave us a ride to the next town. $150 later I am towed back into Saskatoon and not happy about it.

There are other alternatives and not everyone I know has to drive 340 kms every Sunday for work but once or twice a year I start to think about living in a different part of the world. Today is one of those days.

Jones back in Blue As a Rider fan, I am appalled by this but as a CFL fan I am pleased. When you realize that you are closer to being Henry Burris and not Doug Flutie, the CFL makes a lot more sense.

Yahoo! News - Powell Asks Bush to Reverse Stand on War Captives

This is kind of interesting because what determines humane conditions? I am not taking an opinion one way or another. I haven't been in any jails except when our high school class got a tour but even in Canada's penal system, there are differing conditions. That being said, my office is smaller than 8x8.

Big O couldn't get much emptier They just need to contract the Expo's. I don't think any fans care enough anymore to even go let alone be upset by it.

Hitchcock loses showdown in Dallas Too bad that Ken Hitchcock got fired. I have always like him although watching the trap can be painful. I thought Bob Gainey did the class act and move himself out when Ken got fired (if it was his decision). The GM makes mistakes and the coach gets fired seems to be an old tune in all of sports.

Bush weighs tough measures with advisers; says Arafat enhances terror Powell recommended Arafat make more arrests and keep the suspects in prison. He also wanted a commitment from Arafat to shut down Hamas, Islamic Jihad and other groups the State Department considers terrorist organizations and give a credible account of the weapons-smuggling incident.

I don't think Arafat can shut down the Hamas, Islamic Jihad and other groups and I think that is the problem. I don't think Arafat is in control any longer.

Ten Most Overrated Quarterbacks of my Generation

- Steve Walsh (Dallas gave up a #1 in 1989 for this guy?)
- Rick Mirer (doh, he was one of my hero's growing up)
- Steve DeBerg (great stats but disappered in all big games)
- Don Majkowski (4000 yards one year, nothing else for his career)
- Mike Tomzak (was he really better than Jim McMahon)
- Jim McMahon - nothing with out Sweetness
- Jay Schroeder (see #4)
- Phil Simms (Joe Morris and O.J. Anderson carried him)
- Cade McNown, Akili Smith
- Jeff George

Next week I rate the running backs....

It has all been a lie!

I downgraded my trusty Thinkpad 760 to a 486 Gateway Handbook. Basically I just wanted something light and portable and I couldn't afford a Sony Vaio. I found one on eBay a while ago and I got it for cheap (actually it was quite expensive when you consider the Canadian dollar is at an all time low). I threw on Windows 3.11, a Windows shell that looks exactly like 95/98/Me and Office 4.2 for Windows 3.x. I threw Opera on their for a web client.

I started to use Office 4.2 and all of a sudden I realized that it was almost the exact same as Office 2000. I have bought Office 95, 97, and 2000 for a piece of software I don't use (Outlook). I don't know how Microsoft (where quality is job 1.1) can sleep at night. Oh yeah, on top of their billions of dollars. I don't know how I can sleep at night when I realize that I pay for almost no improvements and consider myself grateful.

Tyson Apologizes for His Part in Conference Brawl Former champion Tyson was quoted on the BBC Web site as saying that he would let his fighting in the ring do the talking in future.

The problem with that is that I would be suprised to see Mike Tyson fight again. I doubt that the State of Nevada would give him a boxing liscense after the altercation and the alleged rape charges that seems to be coming soon. It is really too bad, I always hoped he would get his life in order. Now his wife is leaving him and then this..

U.S. Backs Confinement of Arafat WASHINGTON (AP) - The White House gave its endorsement Thursday to Israel's confinement of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat to a West Bank compound. ``The president understands the reason that Israel has taken the action that it takes, and it is up to Chairman Arafat to demonstrate the leadership to combat terrorism.'' spokesman Ari Fleischer told reporters at an informal morning briefing.

This is really interesting and I think Israel and the US know something that the press doesn't. This will sadly get far worse before it gets any better.

Palestinian Militants Threaten War Burg, who is from the moderate Labor Party, charged that Sharon's aim is the ``destruction of the Palestinian Authority and reoccupation of the cities of the West Bank,'' which were handed to the Palestinian Authority in the 1990s. Sharon has cut off political contacts with Palestinian officials because of the violence, and his government several weeks ago torpedoed an initiative in which Israeli President Moshe Katsav would have addressed the Palestinian legislature.

Wal-Mart About to Overtake Exxon (washingtonpost.com) Industry watchers say Wal-Mart's incredible success can be attributed to the business philosophy Walton swore by and which is still in practice a decade after his death: "Try to squeeze the lowest price possible from the people who sell to you, and then pass the savings on to the customer," explained Kurt Barnard, a longtime retail consultant and president of Barnard's Retail Trend Report in Montclair, N.J.

Netscape.com I just downloaded and installed Netscape 6.2.1 on my K6II 333 with 256 megs of RAM. It is sooooo much better than 6.0 but still have some problems rendering some websites like the pop-ups on GeoCities. It is far faster but not good enough for me to switch over to it yet. I was a strong supporter of Netscape and loved 4.08 but IE kept getting better and better.

Kmart Seeks Bankruptcy Protection

Kmart has struggled in the fiercely competitive discount market against rivals like Wal-Mart and Target. Debt rating agencies, including Standard & Poor's, have in recent weeks lowered their credit ratings for Kmart.

There has been some that have suggested that S&P have been to quick to downgrade their stock and may be pushing companies like Kmart into bankruptcy. That being said, any business plan that puts you into the crosshairs of Wal-Mart should be re-evaluated.

A trade between two Turkish soccer teams exacted a heavy price. Sarigol Municipality, which plays in the first division of the Manisa Amateur League, traded two players to Canakcispor for 225 sacks of cement. Sarigol officials were so delighted with the deal they threw in two more players as a gesture of good will. The Turkish sports news Web site Ajansspor quoted Sarigol chairman Adnan Aygun as saying:
"They got four good players, and we repaired the stadium."

This reminds me of my high school algebra teacher who was traded in the CFL for some rolls of sock tape. That has to be really hard on the ego. Think of the guys that were thrown in on the deal. The compassionate business of professional sports.

CBC News: World falls far short of what UN says is needed to rebuild Afghanistan The world nations needs to step up the plate and rebuild Afghanistan if we are going to have any credibility. Irish Times Article - Questions are being asked as to who is running the Vatican

This is the difference between the Free Methodist Chuch and the Vatican. If I was wondering who was running the Free Methodist Church in Canada, I would just e-mail the Bishop and ask him. If I was questioning who is running the Vatican, I fly to Rome and have a press conference for the corresponants who cover the Pope. Small denominations have some advantages.

It -8000 degrees zero today in northern Saskatchewan. It was so cold that when I was filling my car with gas this morning, my keys got stuck to my hand. They say it is a dry cold but at -40, none of that really matters. It is just cold.

I drove 2 hours north to Spiritwood this morning ay 6:00 a.m. After I was 15 minutes north of Saskatoon I never saw a car until Spiritwood. I also had no cell coverage for most of the trip.

It was pitch black, -40, and I was 40 kms at times away from anyone at times. What an insane drive and what was I thinking. It doesn't matter how much survival equipment ones has, it would have been darn cold if anything had happened.

I am glad to be home and back in the city (although it was a worthwhile trip)

Guantanamo Photos Stir Controversy It will be interesting to see the Blair government's evaluation of the detainees. Yahoo! Sports: NFL - Patriots 16, Raiders 13, OT

``I wasn't sure. Yeah, I was throwing the ball,'' Brady said with a smile. ``How do you like that?'' I was cheering for the Pats but that was a horrible call. Tom Brady knows it, the Raiders know it and anyone other than the ref knows it. So much for getting the call always right. It was a great game. From the snow I thought I was watching a CFL game. The Canadian Football League is prohibiting websites like mine from using any of their logos on it. I assume this is to protect the precious brand.

Have they thought that people like put CFL logos on our sites because for some reason we still cheer for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and want to link to the site. Or we want to talk about how much we love our local team. You would also think that anyone who would create a page or at least link to the official page would be the kind of person to go to games, watch on the TV, and buy merchandise. Why wouldn't you go out of the way to help these fans?

Sure there may be some abusers but why would you hurt your most public and strongest fans. It makes no sense to me.

Even if they didn't want you to use some logos, create linking icons like www.dilbert.com does and say "you have to use these ones". The CFL just doesn't make any sense and shows again that they don't understand the internet at all.

This article is right, unless you have something that can do a job, the computer is almost worthless. That being said, I just bought a Gateway Handbook which will run Windows 3.x, and use Opera as its web browser and work really well. There is a not a lot of difference between Office 4.2 for Windows 3.1 and Office XP when doing basic office tasks. NGO's can use the old machines if they have the people who can put them together. If you have some older machinges, you may want to check out New Deal Inc. They bought out GeoWorks and have rebuilt it so you have a GUI OS and Office Suite that runs well on 386's and 486's. I love this software.
