For the first 8,500 posts, this weblog was powered by Google’s Blogger.  In 2008 the decision was made to switch to WordPress.  While WordPress does a pretty good job by itself.  A couple of plugins go a long way to make the site work smoothly.  It is hosted by Dreamhost, who by in large I have been really happy with their service.

All of the comments are on the site are moderated until you have had one approved.  While Akismet does a good job in dealing with much of the spam, some still does slip through.  I don’t normally delete comments, I don’t tolerate commercial advertising in the comments or name calling.  Once you do that, I will mark you and your IP as spam.

A blog about urbanism, technology & culture.
