“Official” Bio

Jordon Cooper is the Residential Coordinator of the Salvation Army Community Centre and is one of the founding members of the Resonate.   Previously he was the Senior Pastor of Lakeland Church (Spiritwood, Saskatchewan) and was on the staff of Lakeview Church (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan).  Jordon studied theology at Aldersgate College, Horizon College and Seminary and the University of Saskatchewan.

My Story

Jordon CooperI was born in Edmonton, Alberta back in 1974.  Shortly after that we moved to Rainbow Lake, Alberta which is just south of the North West Territories border and I was periodically called inside because of wolves or bears on our lane.  In the mid 70s we ended up in Calgary.  While in Calgary a sister and brother were added to the family and eventually my father left the family and by 1984 we were on the move to Saskatchewan.

After high school I attended Aldersgate College in Moose Jaw where I was going to study theology.  I transferred to what is now called Horizon College and Seminary in Saskatoon after a year which was a good decision to make.  In 1995 I took a short break for theological studies to run against then Premier Roy Romanow in the Saskatoon Riversdale riding as a candidate for the Progressive Conservative Party of Saskatchewan.  It wasn’t even close but it was a good experience.

The fall of 1995 I became the interim pastor of the Free Methodist church in Spiritwood, Saskatchewan, a position I held for eleven years.  It involved 360 km’s of driving every Sunday and often several other trips during a month.  In 1999 I joined the staff of Lakeview Church in Saskatoon and served there for five years as well.

2006 saw me step back from paid pastoral work and start some other projects.  To help pay the bills I worked at the now defunct Computer Boulevard  and that summer I started working nights at the Salvation Army in Saskatoon.  The plan was to work a couple of months as we made some plans to move east but along the way things changed and I decided to remain in Saskatoon.  Work changed as well and in the fall of 2007 I was offered the job of Residential Coordinator at the shelter and decided to take it.  The new position allows me to work on some projects that are pretty near and dear to my heart and is a lot of fun.

In the fall of 1995 I met Wendy while attending school and we were married two years later in 1997.  In 2000 our son Mark was born and in 2008 we had another son named Oliver.  Along the way there has been a couple of dogs that have called our place home as well.
