Saskatoon mayoral candidate releases his major election platform. Here it is. Comments are mine.
-1.5 to 2 percent rent decrease For Students. Seniors and all other Renters. This I will discuss with the Landlords Association, to accommodate their suggestions and resolutions.
Umm, you can’t legislate this without provincial rent controls. Landlords aren’t just going to cut rent because they are nice.
-.015 Mill decrease to Home Owners, in the first year till I have the books audited.
I am pretty sure that they are audited by this thing called the “Audit Committee” and also some auditors. While I am not a big fan of S&P’s they too take a long look at our books. That and the budget process is freakishly transparent. I know things about the city finances from just showing up at council meetings.
-My “Salary will only be 75 per cent, not a 100 per cent for my whole term as 25 percent of my salary will be given to organizations that need it. As your MAYOR, I know we have to make sacrifices, and as your MAYOR I will. Also I will speak to Counsel Members what they can sacrifice towards there ward constituents. My first year will be given to towards the Children’s Hospital, and my second year will be given to a Home Care Facility that needs upgrades, and my third year will go to the Ronald Macdonald Children’s Facility. I am a person who is willing to give back to our community, as it should be.
In your fourth year may I suggest The Lighthouse?
-The only Major Infracture that I’m concerned about is our streets, and one major one is a bridge for Ward 10, (Arbour Creek, Erindale, Willow Grove, Silver Spring, Evergreen, Forest Grove, and Sutherland as a Whole) we need a bridge for this area that connects to 70th street to decrease the demand of traffic on circle drive, and also that Ward 10 as secondary route to the north end of the industrial area where almost 80 per cent of our workforce in Saskatoon must drive every day to work. I think this is the most logical place to have a bridge, before 11th street was done. This would have decreased the traffic congestion that a lot of citizens see every day taking Circle Drive North to any business in the northern Industrial area.
Umm, I think that’s two major infrastructure projects and you lost me there someplace.
-River Landing, let’s go there for a moment. What the heck is going on here, it’s been six years, and I don’t see any drastic measures to make this a Landmark for our City. Nothing is moving forward on this project, but money is budgeted each year for it, where is this money going, that’s my question. The stalling of this must stop, and move forward. This project is you kiss my etc, I will kiss yours. That stops now, that’s politics, nothing else but BS. When I see the books on this project , is it because of Political Biased. “I will not be Bought”!
Umm, there is a great park, pathway, amphitheatre, this thing called the Persephone Theatre, and soon a hotel. While City Council has micromanaged the project from time to time in 45 minute increments during meetings, they have always approved it. I am not sure if that is so much BS but just councillors that ramble on a couple of minutes too long.
-Because like most people in this Province, we had to work to be where we are today, but there is some in the woodwork that will be found who have not followed the rules, and the Public will know when there found, guaranteed.
Of course there are people that haven’t followed the rules but they tend to be rooted out by city administration and the process unless it’s a parking RFP and then an appeal to City Council overturns it.
-I don’t need A Parliament Represented to fall on to get a vote. I’m here without Parliament, I’m here for the citizens of Saskatoon of this City without Parliament, because this is a civic election, but Mr. Wolf as other idea’s what a civic election is about.
Umm, I think that was a shot at Tom Wolfe but I am not really sure.
-Another disturbing thing that has come about, my Financial advisor who is a good friend to my family, who knows one of the two top Lawyers in Saskatoon, cause he is a good acquaintance with this certain Lawyer, on behalf he asked if he would willing to contribute a slight donation for my upcoming election, his reply was tell me not to enter, it would be a waste of my time. His reply to my advisor there is a Inner Political Circle, he does not have any chance, to not waste my time. What does that mean? One wonders what hell is going on, on comment by a prominent Lawyer in the City of Saskatoon.
I too am wondering what is going on but my focus is limited to this campaign platform.
-Mr. Atchison promises in his last election inner infrastructure, now again he has it on his platform. This because he had to make a circle, I think that the people that voted for our current Mayor would feel a little ripped off, I know I do. I think if proper planning was done, I think a Octagon planning would have more credibility for the citizens of Saskatoon, the bridge for 11th Street, really has no logic to it at all, that’s all I have to say…..
Ahhh, the famous Octagon planning will save us all. Not only that but an inner Octagon is a better way to run Saskatoon

No he was right it was “there”.
I think the Lighthouse idea for the 4th year is the best I’ve heard so far for this candidate Is this candidate for real?? Has a background check been done on this individual?
I THINK NOT!
All I can say is….Good luck to you Don Atchison….good luck to you, Tom Wolfe….I think Saskatoon would benefit by EITHER ONE OF YOU representing Saskatoon!!! Obviously both educated, upstanding citizens, you both seem to have a great insight into what is expected of a mayor. Best of luck to you both!
I’m curious about Mr. Mazurkewich’s credentials and background as nothing has been disclosed thus far, unlike Mr. Achison and Mr. Wolfe. I found Mr. Mazurkewich on Facebook where he remains relatively incognito as well. He claims to have graduated in Karachi, Pakistan on his Facebook page, when he was in my graduating class elsewhere in Saskatoon. On FB, it gives the same email address and cell phone as his blog as Mayoral candidate, which validates this is the same person. One could only conclude that’s odd – and question his validity in any form.
Response to Adele……..this is the same guy who has had several DUI’s!!……and that can certainly be verified….oh, and the same guy who was incarcerated following an assault on one of his X wives….and THAT can be verified as well!!…….mayor candidate??? Seriously??
I completely understand why a prominent lawyer here in Saskatoon would have come to the conclusion it would be a waste of time for this person to run for mayor. It would appear Mazurkewich just “doesn’t get it.” And what’s wrong with River Landing? I’m proud to show it off to out-of-town friends and family. Saskatoon’s ‘Land of living skies’ is a beautiful city with much to offer! Let’s move forward with foresight, positivity, strength, resillience, and above all: resourcefulness and passion! And I agree with the comment above – most certainly, any mayoral candidate needs to have security clearance.
An election should have some humour, and if this guy is willing to provide it, THANKS. Whether he knows it or not, he’s not a serious candidate and he’s not going to draw votes from any other serious candidate. What does worry me is the possibility that he is typical of many voters
I don’t understand how this candidate got through the back checks!! How about spelling 01 !
Maybe he’ll get 1 vote. If he votes.
There’s a lot of thoughts of conspiracy on our inner circles or octagons or whatever he means. The platform should be: There’s One Thing I Know For Sure. I Just can’t think of it right now. Unreal!!
Oh, please!!!! Let’s give the voters of Saskatoon more credit than that!!!………..
I listened to Brent Louks interview Clay Mazurkewich on the radio. Seriosuly, I almost fell off my chair laughing!!! Okay, this is a JOKE isn’t it?!! Clay Mazurkewich is just running for mayor as a joke……you know, one of those instances where it brings homour to the others…….I bet Brent is still laughing!! I don’t believe this guy is for real! It HAS to be just something to entertain the citizens of Saskatoon!! ha! ha!…whoever had this idea, really, it IS fuuny!
This is hilarious. Please let Atch win!
I’ve been proud to call Saskatoon “home” for over 50 years, and rightly so – until now. How can someone like Mazurkewich be running for mayor in this fair city of mine? I’m embarrassed to have heard him on the radio, the Mayoral debate – all speaking engagements. While Atichison and Wolfe both have innovative ideas, action plans and common sense, Mazurkewich simply repeats himself as though he’s unable to comprehend the topic at hand. For starters, if he took the marbles from his mouth, we may be able to understand him more clearly. An acquaintance of mine who was born and raised in Saskatoon, now living in Vancouver, phoned me yesterday to “razz” me about “Mazurkewich for mayor.” He asked me “What happened to Saskatoon?” I had no rebuttal, other than to agree with him. Of course Mazurkewich is no threat to the other two candidates, but the simple fact he has this platform continues to embarrass me as a “citizen of Saskatoon” (quotations here are rhetorical). Another 7 days… Ughh.
I worked with Clay a few years ago, he is straight shooting, knows where he is going, won’t take crap from anybody, is a financial wizard, is the only (best) man for the job. I stand behind him 100%,
A financial wizard!!?? He claimed personal bankruptcy……..I don’t think you know him at all….or this is himself posting!! Where did you work with him!? I believe he is on social asst right now…….he knows where he is going?….to the bar, daily………did you catch the picture of him on web site passed out in the bar? A mayor candidate??!! Yeah, right!
