Get the flash player here: http://www.adobe.com/flashplayer I was down to the Occupy Saskatoon quite a few times trying to help them out with men and women who were homeless and staying there. Since I normally have a camera of some sort with me, I snapped a couple of photos when I down during daylight hours.
November, 2011:
Column: Homeless need not just shelter
My latest in The StarPhoenix I enjoy winters in Saskatoon. There is Wintershines, the Meewasin skating rink, turning down Blades tickets because I don’t want to drive out to the Credit Union Centre, and reminiscing about when Blackstrap used to be open. No matter how cold it is at the end of the day, I [...]
Column: Homeless need more than just shelter
My column today in The StarPhoenix I enjoy winters in Saskatoon. 4G speed
While I loved my Blackberry Curve, it’s still CDMA and I want to take advantage of SaskTel’s new network. Plus, the HSPA network has better coverage at the cabin. Instead of the new Blackberry Curve, I am thinking of getting the new Samsung Galaxy Ace. The Blackberry apps really are inferior and with declining market [...]
Riders next playoff appearance in about 2018
Roughriders name Brendan Taman head of football operations The Saskatchewan Roughriders have retained Brendan Taman as general manager and expanded his duties to include complete control over the franchise’s football operations. The Riders announced the front-office moves today during a media conference at Mosaic Stadium. Taman has been with the Riders since 2009, spending the [...]
Fired by a phone call
This is probably my last post on Penn State and Joe Paterno for a while as he was fired last night by the Penn State Board of Trustees. Joe Paterno, a man who until last week could make a claim to being the greatest coaching institution in the history of college athletics, was terminated Wednesday [...]
2011 Year End Awards for the Saskatchewan Roughriders
These are hilarious. The Alexander Daigle award – Hugh Charles. This award is given to the player that exemplifies a truly high level of skill, speed, and game-breaking ability (in his own mind). Then all of the sudden gives up on plays for no apparent reason. I really enjoyed watching Mr. Charles give up on [...]
Joe Paterno about to ousted at Penn State
The writing is on the wall for Penn State’s Joe Paterno. Joe Paterno’s tenure as coach of the Penn State football team will soon be over, perhaps within days or weeks, in the wake of a sex-abuse scandal that has implicated university officials, according to two people briefed on conversations among the university’s top officials. [...]
The legacy of Joe Paterno
I am a big Joe Paterno fan. I always have been but as Dan Wetzel writes, the allegations against the coaching legend are serious enough to forever taint his legacy. Pennsylvania law asks employees to pass the information up their chain of command, where it fell on Curley to tell authorities. However, Paterno is no [...]
Houston Nutt gone at Ole Miss
Paranoia and pressure in the SEC was too much for him At the end of the 2008 season, when Ole Miss reeled off consecutive wins over Arkansas, Auburn, Louisiana-Monroe, LSU, Mississippi State and Texas Tech, there weren’t many teams nationally better than the Rebels. That was inarguable. The pollsters agreed, ranking Ole Miss in the [...]
