The weekend started off poorly. Wendy and I picked up the Festiva last night from our mechanic. The bill was well below what I thought it would be which is a good thing. As I was heading home, some moron ran a red and to avoid the collision, I swerved and hit the curb. Saskatoon’s crumbling sidewalks came back and bit me as all that was left was the drainage grate which shredded my back tire. Since I have a front wheel drive, it had to be dollied up and towed home. The bill was $80. Of course I had washed my cell phone the night before… Wendy didn’t have her phone on… Oliver managed to pee through his diaper… We got home and went for dinner several hours after we had planned and just kind of laughed it all off. Wendy was horrified when she saw the tow truck pull up but was relieved that it was something pretty minor. Of course we always keep a spare in the vehicle but we blew a tire last weekend going to the cabin and the spare was already on it. After talking to the tire guys, we were going to order two new tires but were still pricing them out. Anyways, we’ll get the new tires ordered today.
Oliver turns two on Wednesday. Earlier on Friday, Wendy and I bought him a big turtle sandbox for the backyard and tracked down some decent sandbox sand to fill it, Mark got him a toy guitar, and the dogs gave him an appropriately sized soccer ball. Of the three gifts, the ball will be his favourite. How do I know, he sleeps with a football at night. Seriously, some kids have a security blanket, Oliver has a security football. He has a big bouncy ball at home, a Nerf football for the cabin, a mini football for the car, a regulation football to play toss to Mark and I and then run around yelling “touchdown” and several balls to play with the dogs with. I am wondering if I am letting him watch too much NFL Network.
No big plans for his birthday other than playing in the sandbox and of course chasing balls all over the backyard.
Sunday afternoon will be spent finally painting the Adirondack chairs a sky blue. There are some great looking resin Adirondack’s out there but they are too light to be left out in front of the cabin.
