I didn’t see Edwards’ appearance on Nightline but I did read about him in Game Change, where his story constitutes a subplot. Perhaps I am being cynical, but I would have to consider his personality typical for someone with sufficient will to power to become President. His behavior was unusual among the main characters in Game Change, but not extremely so.
I would have been a John Edwards supporter in 2008. I agree that this character is one that is probably common in presidents, although how it incarnated itself through the affairs was what really messed him up.
