Over the last couple of months I have had a lot of conversations off the record or as background on stories for local and some national media reporters around the topic of addictions, life on the street, homelessness, and poverty. One of the things that comes up is the phrase, “we don’t know how to cover poverty and homeless in Saskatoon” or where ever they are coming from.
I have been working on a couple of web, video and work projects that have produced a lot of text, video, and photography over the last year and while some of it is coming out later in 2011, some of it is good to go now and I thought I would rework some of it for the blog and share it with you.
The reason I am doing this is because I have had hundreds of conversations over the last couple of years with friend, colleagues, other agencies, and the media and at the end of the day, I realize that most people are pretty ignorant of the challenges and complexity that both people caught in a spiral of poverty and addictions and the agencies that serve them face.
Let me know if you have any thoughts or comments on what I am writing as we move through this.
