Emergency Shelter for Women and Children

The news just went live yesterday but after almost a year of working on this project, the Salvation Army Community Centre announced that we placed a conditional offer on a house in Pleasant Hill that will serve as an emergency shelter for women and children in Saskatoon.

We have some rezoning to take care of, then some renovations, and some decorating but the house is in good shape and will allow us to provide safe and comfortable housing for up to ten families at a time.  We have come close several times before but I have to admit, it felt pretty good to get the news that the offer was accepted.  The only bad part of it is that we are all pretty excited and now like any expectant home owner with big plans for a project, we can’t wait to start work on it.

It’s been a lot of work and there still is a lot of work but the families we help will appreciate it. Now it’s off to creating a transitional space for them to go next.
