Candidate for Ward 4

I found Sean Shaw via Twitter and that he was running for Saskatoon City Council in Ward 4 (right next to my Ward).  Sean already makes a sizable contribution to the life of the city and I think would be a good voice to have on city council.

Sean is the Vice-chair of the Saskatoon Environmental Advisory Committee, which provides advice to City Council on policy matters relating to the environmental implications of City undertakings, and to identify environmental issues of potential relevance to the City.  He is also the Vice-President of the RoadMap 2020 Board of Directors, a partnership  geared towards environmental sustainability within Saskatoon between the city, Meewasin Valley Authority, Saskatoon Environmental Society, and local businesses. Additionally, he has recently been appointed to the Board of Directors for the Quint Development Corporation, which exists to strengthen the economic and social well being of Saskatoon’s five core neighbourhoods through a community based economic development approach.

You can check out his website for more information an if you are so inclined, follow him on Twitter.

Thanks for the kind words Jordan. If anyone out there in cyberland would like to learn more about me, my vision for Ward 4 and the city, or get involved, please drop me a line. I can be reached via my website, or on my cell 370-SHAW. Whether you live in the Ward or not, electing a new councilor in Ward 4 will have an impact on the city as a whole, so don’t hesistate to get involved.

I am running against Myles Heidt who has held the seat since 1994. I think it’s time for a positive change in Ward 4 and I hope to convince enough people that I represent that change. In case your wondering, Ward 4 includes Westmount, Mount Royal, Hudson Bay Park, Massey Place, Westview, Dundonald, and Hampton Village.

    Thanks again Jordan.

Dear Mr. Cooper. Is my understanding correct that Mr. Shaw is NDP?

  3. Sean S. says:

Pete, I have indeed been involved with the NDP here in Saskatoon as they best represent my views on the federal and provincial stage.

However, I’d stress that there is no room for party politics at the municipal level as the day-to-day decisions of city council over items like policing, roads, property taxes, snow clearing, and waste/garbage (to name a few). The main job of a city councilor is to listen and respond to the needs of their Ward’s residents, something that Ward 4 rightly deserves.

I am not that partisan anymore but tend to think of my candidates on an election by election basis. While I would say I support the Sask Party (and have worked at getting Sask Party candidates elected), in my own riding, I voted NDP provincially and Liberal federally last time around on the basis of local candidates. Locally I have been a fan of what Darren Hill has done for my ward (which isn’t the ward that Sean is running in). I guess that is a way of saying that I don’t care that much who Mr. Shaw supports federally or provincially as long as him or any candidate do a good job in representing their constituents.
