2009 New Year’s Resolutions
- Walk or ride by mike to work 100 days next year. Dave King has a km goal but for me I want to measure the amount of times I am walking and biking to work. Like most of us, I work about 200 days a year. It is amazingly cold here for a lot of those days and other days when I could walk, I need to do stuff after work and so I need the car. Like I said, 100 walking days to work is a minimum. It’s only 17 blocks so it isn’t as if it is any great hardship.
- Read a book a week. This is connected to the first goal. I am exhausted and tired when I come home many nights and yet when I walk, the stress tends to melt away which leaves me a lot more refreshed mentally. The hope is that the walk home will give me some time to unwind and allow me to take some time to read in 2009. The other part of it is despite a lot of publishers sending me a lot of books to review, most of the books they sent me were horrible. Some of you who are authors and are my friends, I would appreciate some better books in 2009.
- Play a game of tennis a week weather permitting. I love tennis but haven’t played in a couple of years. I have the hair style of Andre Agassi, now I just need to find a game like his. (Playing here would be pretty cool as well)
- Golf five times this summer with Mark. That doesn’t sound like a lot but it is five more times I golfed in 2008. Silverwood Golf Course is an executive double nine hole courses designed for kids and ADD afflicted adults like myself. That and Mark needs to learn how to golf.
- Take three drives from the book that the Reimer’s gave me for Christmas, Saskatchewan Scenic Drives.
- Get out of the country once in 2009 (I barely left the province in 2008)
- Put a front and a back deck on the cabin.
- Finish my documentary on homelessness in Saskatoon.
- Learn how to fish. I bought a cabin by a lake. Mark has a fishing rod and a tackle box. Even Lee was given a new fishing rod for Christmas. Despite that, I don’t have a fishing rod or know how to fish. It’s time to learn.
- Dedicate some more time to Resonate in 2009. 2008 drained the life out of me and a lot of good came from it but 2009 is a chance to refocus some energy.

Say, that golf course is just my style. I shoot in the low 90′s – for nine holes.
Are you going to the Saskatoon Ex and ride some of the crazy attractions?
Mike,
That is about my score as well. I think I have had games where I lose that many balls.
I don’t normally ride the rides at the Ex but I do when I get to West Edmonton Mall. At the Ex I take in the trade show and the food. Apparently I am growing up a bit.
