Sorry about the mess

I installed WordPress 2.6 over the weekend, I imported all of the 8500 posts from Blogger, 5000 comments and installed a couple of plugins and the site was awfully sluggish. 3 and 4 second load times.

After uninstalling it and getting some suggestions on speeding up the site with caching software I tried it again, the same slow response times. I inquired with Dreamhost today about why WordPress was so slow and if they have any suggestions. My other alternative is to go with Tumblr, hosted Blogger, or Movable Type 4.1. I am not sure what it is that I am going to choose so if you have any suggestions, let me know.

I find it mostly has to do with the server, not the program. WordPress is built for sites like yours with large amounts of data. Not to rip into dreamhost at all, but maybe?

    Hi Jordon,

There’s quite a few things that could be the cause, most likely a plugin or try turning off the post revisions on WordPress 2.6 (they’re a new feature and cause some sites to go slow).

    Hope that helps,
    Rachel
