- According to the Pope, only the Roman Catholic Church is the true church. Protestant churches are just ecclesial communities.
- Wendy has posted about the last couple of weeks. About as bad as she describes it but not as bad as some of the e-mails have made it out to be.
- An op-ed by Anne Murray fighting a wind farm near her cottage. I remember seeing a piece with Walter Cronkite fighting a wind farm near his cottage because it would interfere with sailing. It’s the old we like alternative energy, as long as it isn’t near me.
- Seth Godin on sloppy naming and branding. We had a discussion on church and ministry names not that long ago on Resonate. This applies to churches as well. You Apple fans will want to check out this diagram on Apple naming throughout the ages.
- The New York Times is calling for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq :: While I was never in favor of the war I generally subscribe to the belief that when you destroy a country, you need to fix it. This paragraph seems to sum up the editorial and the problem :: At first, we believed that after destroying Iraq’s government, army, police and economic structures, the United States was obliged to try to accomplish some of the goals Mr. Bush claimed to be pursuing, chiefly building a stable, unified Iraq. When it became clear that the president had neither the vision nor the means to do that, we argued against setting a withdrawal date while there was still some chance to mitigate the chaos that would most likely follow. While Mr. Bush scorns deadlines, he kept promising breakthroughs — after elections, after a constitution, after sending in thousands more troops. But those milestones came and went without any progress toward a stable, democratic Iraq or a path for withdrawal. It is frighteningly clear that Mr. Bush’s plan is to stay the course as long as he is president and dump the mess on his successor. Whatever his cause was, it is lost.

I am also fully in favour of finding alternative scources for renewable (green) energy, but…
Ask Denmark what their experience has been with windfarms.
I doubt they would go that route again if they knew then what they know now.
Windfarms change the wind and weather patterns all around them, not always for the better. Electricity from this scource may be renewable, (not necessarily cheap,) and green, but it comes with a pricetag that often is more expensive than some alternatives.
As much as I hate to say it, if hydro-powered generating stations are not feasible, then the next best thing is nuclear-powered ones.
Or the use of Plasma Arc technology to incinerate our non-recycleable waste (including the residue from nuclear reactors)and use the reulting heat/steam to generate electricity.
The U.S. Navy uses Plasma Arc technology on some of their battleships and aircraft carriers to incinerate their garbage and turns the steam into electricity so I am left wondering why this option isn’t even on our radar screens.
Art, I do agree with you and I am not familiar with the details of Anne Murray’s struggle but the Cronkite win farm was 16 milles off shore.
I agree with your comments that nuclear is the best option. Also, some places like Halifax are doing some really crazy stuff like using escaping methane gas from old dumps to power generators. Not a solution for the masses but there are some innovative ideas out there.
Jordan,
Just one quick comment… A fellow who resides in the country here in Ontario erected a wind generator large enough to power both his house and his business.
Hydro One has given him static because they are NOT obligated to buy any excess, unlike in the States. (Oh, they will give him “credit” all right, but much like the banks, at a very reduced rate.)
Also the NIMBY’s are out in force. It is an eyesore; it makes to much noise; it kills the birds…..
Go figure!
I find HydroOne’s stance really odd because for the simple reason that they are the ones saying there will be blackouts in the coming years and you would think that the less burden guys like this put on the system, the better everyone would be.
