Prayer
This came from Rudy Carassco today.
The community surrounding Harambee is more peaceful that it was at our founding in the early 1980s. But we regularly see waves of violence, and we are in one now. Since December, at least three youth have been killed in the northwest Pasadena area, and a number of others shot or hurt. I hear police sirens and helicopters almost nightly, and there has been a surge of police presence to counter the violence. Community leaders, churches, law enforcement and others are working together to stem the violence, and one evidence of this effort is the above-mentioned march. My hope is that young people caught up in the violence will turn away from nihilism and embrace the life that Christ promises. My fear is that our children, youth and families at Harambee will be innocent bystanders of the dramas that are playing out.
We’ve already had to intervene for our young people and parents on a few occasions. In the midst of the challenges of daily life, our concern for the safety of loved ones is another burden. I ask that you pray for “the peace of Christ that passes all understanding” to be present in our midst, and that our Harambee staff, both adult and youth, will be salt and light in whatever situation they are in. Thank you in advance for your prayers and thoughts.

Saskatoon gets free wifi
Saskatoon and a couple other Saskatchewan cities are getting free wifi zones. The nice part is that they will be within walking distance of work and home.
RSS feed for all of the Resonate Greenhouse church planting networks
A couple of weeks ago, I fooled around with Yahoo! Pipes and Feedburner and put together a RSS feed for all of the Resonate Greenhouses.
By subscribing to this feed, you are kept up to date with what is going on in all of the Resonate church planting networks across the country as well as any new photos that are posted to the Resonate Stories photo group. I thought that I would be one of the few that would but to my suprise, a lot of people have subscribed not only from Canada but from all over the world. Since then, I have tinkered some more with Pipes and the feed is working a little smoother.
To subscribe, just add feeds.feedburner.com/ResonateGreenhouse to your favorite RSS feed reader (clicking on the link with Firefox 2.x allows you to pick your reader of choice). There are more “one click” links on the Resonate Greenhouse site. Enjoy the RSS goodness.

What is more difficult is allaying the fears that dog the involvement of faith groups in the public sector. Chalke keeps a careful distance from Peter Vardy, the evangelical Christian sponsor of academies in the north-east, who has run into considerable controversy over science teaching. “Creationism is a load of garbage,” Chalke declares. “Genesis is a poem based on a Babylonian creation myth.”
Finally an Outlook Replacement
Bringing Mozilla’s Thunderbird and Sunbird together in a freeware alternative to Microsoft Outlook called Mozilla Lightning. That being said, I find it hard to beat Gmail/Calendar by Google.

Prayer
Many of you know that I was diagnosed with advanced stage IV pancreatic cancer on August 25th, 2006. Many of you have been praying earnestly for my healing and sending me e-mails to encourage and support me. I have been overwhelmed by the numbers of people who have upheld me in prayer and I want to update you on my condition and say a special word of “Thanks.”After months in and out of the hospital with ever possible complication (kidney failure, emergency operation for a pierced bowel, massive infections, and chemo/radiation) I was sent home on December 9th with the words “You have two to four weeks left to live). On December 9th I was a virtual invalid. My wife had to bathe me, dress me, feed me and walk me. I slept 16-18 hours a day and rarely moved any place except to my bed and couch. I even went under the care of palpable hospice. However, instead of getting worse and dying as predicted, I gradually began to improve. Now, two months later I am practically leading a normal life. I care for myself, walk without a walker, go out to eat, work out (to pound weights) and write every day. I attribute this improvement, however long it lasts, to answered prayer – yours and mine, my wife. I have literally bugged and argued with God!
So, in light of my improvement, how do you pray? I want to ask God to heal me but what if he already has. But, I’m also reluctant to be presumptuous and tell everyone I’ve been healed given the statistical downside of pancreatic cancer and the fact that we are foregoing any definite tests for now, like a MRI, CT scan or PET scan.
So, here is how Joanne and I solved our dilemma. We live and pray one day at a time. We pray each day and say, “Thank you God for the healing you gave me today. Please heal me tomorrow.” It has occurred to both of us that if we were truly spiritually sensitive, we would have prayed that way all of our lives but it took the threat of imminent death to bring us to this point.
We cannot begin to tell all of you how we have benefited from your consistent prayers. We’re convinced that God is answering those prayers and that all the improvement thus far has come from God’s healing powers and that He is the source of all grace. I am confident that God sustained me today but I’m also painfully aware that I am “terminal,” at some point, in the larger sense of the word, as we all are. Thanks be to God that Jesus Christ has conquered sin and death and we all face a great future. Please continue your prayers for both of us. Joanne will see her doctor and have some tests done as her stomach tension and discomfort continues. We think it’s “caregiver’ stress but want to be sure. Also, although I’m better, my strength is fragile and I fatigue easily. Some days are better than others. We appreciate the way everyone has maintained our privacy and ask that you continue to do so.
I hope that you all know that the love and prayers you have “sent” our way are being returned to you from us. We are so deeply moved by them on our behalf.
Gender Equaliy at Technology Conferences
Jason Kottke has done some research on gender equality at tech conferences that is worth reading and pondering.

Enough Already
Snowfall warning for City of Saskatoon continued
10 to 20 cm possible over parts of southern Saskatchewan tonight and Friday.10 to 20 cm of snow is expected for parts of southern Saskatchewanbeginning later today and continuing on Friday. Snow should taper off lateFriday. Snow will begin in southwestern parts of the province this afternoonthen spread northeastward over Saskatchewan overnight. Over extreme southwestern parts of the province, the precipitation may be mixed with freezing rain at first. The main area of snow is expected to be from southwestern Saskatchewan through the central regions. Strong southeasterly winds will combine with snow to create reduced visibilities in blowing snow. While extreme southeastern Saskatchewan will get lesser amounts of snow, these strong winds will combine with any fresh snow to create reduced visibilities in blowing snow and possible blizzard conditions in the Wascana Basin. A weather watch remains in effect for southeastern Saskatchewan. Conditions are expected to improve late Friday.
A winter storm watch is an alert of the potential development of severe winter weather. Persons in or near these areas should be prepared for developingadverse weather conditions and should listen for updated watches and possiblewarnings.
Old Man Winter has overstayed his welcome.

G.K Chesteron This Saturday Night
Wahoo!
I deleted this post yesterday because it was harsher than it needed to be and because some people do take a lot of happiness in what I am saying.
The neuropathic pain came back four days ago. It was the pain that kind of dominated a good year of my life. For those of you who have never experienced it, you need a couple of things.
- A light socket with no bulb but plugged in.
- A low rpm drill with a drill bit.
The first thing you need to do is to stick your hand in the light socket and then have a friend turn on the lights for a couple of seconds at a time but about 10 times a minute several times an hour.
Then with the drill, start drilling into your ankles, feets, and face off and on all night. It hurts. Badly.
The good news is I only have to be at my desk for about 90 minutes a shift and I am free to walk around or be comfortable (within limits as my request for a hot tub seems to be rejected). I talked to the doctor and decided against pain medication. It didn’t work that well in the past and it tended to generate phantom feelings in my feet and arms which annoy me to no extent. Last time everyone was confident that “x” medication would work. It didn’t and was quite frustrating being constantly being disappointed. Now I have just accepted it for what it is and it won’t be any fun at all and I think I am okay with that.
The long and short of it is that it could be caused by stress which I realized I am under a tremendous amount of lately or just a cyclical thing which will be with me for who knows how long which of course is a good way of saying, “I have no idea”.
