March 11

As has been tradition the last couple of years on my birthday, I have live blogged the day. Since I am working until 6:00 p.m., this could make it harder but here goes nothing…

9:00 a.m. :: Woke up, showered, and hung out with Mark.

9:40 a.m. :: Lee drove me to 7-11, I withdrew some cash so I had some money for lunch.

9:46 a.m. :: Arrived at work and no one else was there. Noticed there was a lot of snow at the entrance. Lee and I sat making awkward small talk.

9:50 a.m. ::  Dave opened up the store, I punched in and started shovelling while listening to Jimi Hendrix on my iPod Nano

10:05 a.m. :: Arm was hurting from shovelling wet snow. Look at sidewalk and said to myself, “That will do”.

10:06 a.m. :: Started drinking my Fair Trade coffee while observing that my arm hurt.

10:30 a.m. :: Found out that the CPU that I sold last night didn’t fix a problem with a motherboard. The mystery continues.

11:08 p.m. :: Had a conversation with a customer about laser mice.

11:40 p.m. :: Did some dusting with a feather duster.

12:01 p.m. :: I bought a bag of Hickory Sticks

12:05 p.m. :: Offered some Hickory Sticks to some co-workers. Some had some and we had an enriching discussion on what else would be good tasting if hickory flavored.

12:20 p.m. :: I realized I was thirsty so I grabbed a Dr. Pepper. No plans to offer any of that to co-workers.

12:59 p.m. :: Noticed boss was reading Washington Post article I had opened in Firefox. By the time he vacated terminal, I lost interest in reading it.

1:50 p.m. :: Thought a co-worker was drinking from my Starbucks mug. He wasn’t. Need to choke slam him went away.

2:05 p.m. :: Realized that I lost something important yesterday, a special ruler for newspaper advertising. Looked high and low for it all over the place. Found out a co-worker found it which gave me a lead.

2:25 p.m. :: Found the ruler and therefore I live to work another day.

2:35 p.m. :: Heading back outside to shovel more snow.

3:30 p.m. :: Lunch time. Peanut butter and jelly as well as a podcast with Richard Florida.

3:40 p.m. :: Read an article about how George W. Bush has lost the momentum at the White House.

4:45 p.m. :: Was shown where the DVI to analog video adaptors were. Felt like an idiot as I can never find the right adapter in here.

5:10 p.m. :: Overheard a conversation with co-workers who bought a server with 1 gigabyte of EDO Ram.

5:35 p.m. :: Co-workers read current post. “Superfreak” is playing in background.

5:45 p.m. :: Country music was played at work. Brain instinctively blocked it out

6:03 p.m. :: Lee and Mark picked me up at work and we drove to Poverinos for dinner

6:15 p.m. :: Wendy joined us for dinner and Lee ate an up-sized pasta dinner. I had to promise to stop calling him a pre-pubescent girl after he ate all of it.

7:30 p.m. :: Lee gave me his gift to me, a case for my iPod Nano and a memory upgrade for my desktop. Double edged sword with the memoy upgrade, it means we can play more of the same games and Lee can kill me more often. Great

8:10 p.m. Wendy and I arrived at Broadway Roastery for a Freehouse planning meeting. Jerry and Becky suprised me with a Walk the Line DVD. I saw about 10 minutes of it while waiting in line at Future Shop a couple of weeks ago and I have wanted to see it since then. The Pedersons and Tracy were there as well. Drank some fine coffee and had a good time. About 10:00 p.m. some of us ended up at Alexander’s Restaurant. I have ranted about Alexander’s here before but it has gotten a lot better. Since I have been married to Wendy, we have spent a lot birthday’s at Alexander’s eating a lot of nachos.

Some of you asked what I got for my birthday other than what I mentioned.  Wendy gave a copy of Shel Israel and Robert Scoble‘s book, Naked Conversations.  Plus she told me a story about how everyone looked at her asking for the book.  She wanted to scream, “It isn’t about porn, it is a book about blogging!”  Also, she had to ask a couple of people for it    as she couldn’t find it on the shelf as it is a yellow book and McNally Robinson has yellow shelves.  I am looking forward to reading it.  Mark got me Rob Thomas’ CD while Maggi gave me a Mag Light.  On Friday I went for coffee with the Reimers.  I was told to buy my own books and I got two books by Henri Nouwen, Peacework and The Way of the Heart.  It was a nice day.  Thanks to everyone who was a part of it.
