100 Ideas for the next 100 years in Saskatchewan

The Saskatchewan Party recently announced 100 ideas to get Saskatchewan ready for the next 100 years that we posted over at Vote Saskatoon. A lot of good ideas here (as well as some not so good ones) but it is good to see any political party in Canada having some ideas for the future rather then the same old rhetoric that we have been hearing lately. Maybe there is some hope for us idea fans yet. Let’s hope the NDP and Liberals follow suit with some big ideas and dreams of their own and we can have a great debate about the future of Saskatchewan leading into the next election campaign.

Andrew Jones is blogging about podcasting. How incredibly 2003 of him. I decided to reply via a podcast of my own. It’s a fun way to reply.

Life

A bunch of people have asked me if last week is my mid-life crisis. Since I hope to live past 62, I hope not. A bunch of other more insightful people have asked me if I have learned anything from the past couple of weeks. I don’t know if I have learned anything but here are some random thoughts.

  • People have asked me what I was thinking of when the chest pains happened. My first thought was that this must be stress. When I worked at Lakeview, the big cheese would occasionally have heart pains that were stress. I thought that is what they must be. It wasn’t until the doctor freaked on me and Wendy and ordered us to Royal University Hospital after looking at my heart trace that I began to think, “This could be bad”. The thought that I was desprately repressing was a flashback to my mom’s deathbed where she wept because she didn’t want to leave Lee behind (apparently she was more than ready to leave me behind). All I could think of was “I don’t want to miss watching Mark grow up.” I realized at that point that my number one priority and passion in life was to be Mark’s dad.
  • This week people have been asking me if I need help with motivation with making the diet and lifestyle changes that I needed to make. I kept thinking back to those thoughts. Not only do I have to finish raising Lee (if you are a single female and reading this, I have a guy for you… e-mail me… please… I really mean it.) but also I realized that things that I want to do with Mark over the next couple of decades. Growing up playing football in high school was a lot of fun but I remember everyday a couple of fathers would watch practice from a distance in the parking lot, leaning on their car hoods and watching what had to boring practice after boring practice but being there because their kids were practicing and they couldn’t think of a better place to be from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. everyday. I can’t wait to do that with Mark. Unless he plays cricket and then it will be 72 hours of watching a sport none of us understand.
  • I would love to post two questions here. One can not because of ongoing threats of litigation against me and the other can not be asked because of ongoing threats litigation against me. So much for freedom of expression. Who would have known when I started this thing that jordoncooper.com would need a legal defense fund (actually I had an idea it would but no so often).
  • I wasted a lot of time doing good stuff when I need to focus on the things that God has called me to do. More and more (see bullet above) I wonder if this is a good thing and not something I need to be doing. It may also explain why this thing hasn’t had a redesign in a very long time.
  • Joe Trippi’s book was my hospital reading. It got me so fired up that I wanted to jump out and start a revolution. Then again it may have been the morphine talking… either that or the large elephant in the room that kept telling me to burn things. The book (not the elephant) reminded me that at my heart I am an idealist and a true believer… maybe not in Howard Dean but in the church and in it’s ability to be a redemptive agent in the world and that church 4.0 will be a lot different than it’s predessors and I think we only have a glimpse of what that change will be like.

Mid-life crisis

I met with my doctor today and talked about a bunch of stuff. The good news is that I am alive and my heart is still functioning. Things that I took for granted last week are things I don’t take for granted this week. The other good news is that my blood sugar is down and the excrucitating burning and pain in my hands and feet is almost gone (the pain is back right now which reminds me that I need to take some medication). The bad news is that I stepped on a scale and it asked me, “Who let the container ship in here?” I need to drop 100 pounds. That starts today. I am determined. If I was more confident I would changed the URL of my website from jordoncooper.com to tallskinnycanuck.com but I think Andrew Jones might sue.

Some more thoughts on life tomorrrow but right now I need to sleep as I start work after some time off in the morning.

Propaganda Images From Soviet Magazines

For some reason I have been posting a lot of old Soviet stuff lately but I find this stuff a lot of fun. Maybe it is the old USSR hockey mystique. What I want to know is in human history, has a propoganda poster ever had an impact on anyone? Maybe they are created so future generations have something to look back on and mock.
