Some thoughts of pastoral theology

Just some thoughts from today. Wendy and I drove to Spiritwood today to spend some time with a friend and a member of our congregation. I know pastoral visitation is a thing from the past and is much condemned in many weblogs but as I prayed for her today I was reminded of how totally dependent we are on God when things look so bleak. There is an old English prayer that sailors used to say, "the sea is so mighty and I am so small". I felt that today.

UPDATE: Doh! I re-read that statement this morning and it needs some clarification. What I meant to say was that some feel pastoral visits are a thing of the past and are a poor use of pastor's time. As a pastor, I realize how important they are... to them and me. Early on in my pastoral journey, I was taught that as a "rancher" I need to have other people do that but as I read and learned more, I realized the importance of pastoral presences as a role within the community.
