Canada Beat U.S. 5-2 to Grab Hockey Gold


Canada won with a pair of goals each by Jarome Iginla and Joe Sakic, while Paul Kariya added a single. The second goal by Iginla and Sakic were beautiful! If you aren't from Canada, you have no idea how big hockey is here and how big this game is. It will go down with the 1972 Summit series and the 1987 Canada Cup win as some of the biggest games in Canadian hockey history.

I have been a fan of Team Canada hockey. My dad took me to a 1981 Canada Cup game @ the old Calgary Corral where we stood and watched the Canadians beat the CCCP before the Russians killed the Canadians in the final. The whole country stood still in 1987 when Gretzky to Mario won the Canada Cup. In 1988 the Olympic team practiced and played at the brand new Saskatchewan Place. I got goalie Sean Burkes autograph which was huge at the time. In 1989 the World Jr's were played here with Team Canada winning again. The Hockey Hall of Fame also came. It was the first and probably last time I could touch the Stanley Cup.
